CHAIN SAW BLADES
A chainsaw is a portable mechanical, motorized saw. Chainsaw blade if used continuously becomes dull and needs to be sharpened to cut quickly. Blades must be kept very sharp to perform well. This may be done with a round file or a jig or with a specialized electric sharpening jig. Chainsaw blades are designed for safety and performance, the blades feature a design which eliminates chain skip links and ensures smooth cutting action through even the hardest woods. Safety concerns are met through the virtual elimination of blade kickback and chain binding. Most saws take the form of a thin metal strip with teeth on one edge or a thin metal disk with teeth on the periphery. Usually the teeth are “set” (bent) to alternate sides so that the groove cut by the saw is wider than the thickness of the saw. This prevents binding between the cut surfaces and the sides. A properly sharpened chainsaw blade can rip, crosscut, and make angle cuts. The portable chain saw has practically replaced the woodman's axe and the two-man hand saw for felling trees.
